I love farmhouse/vintage decor because of it’s rustic simple nature. I have taken to making decor pieces to decorate our Cosy Garden Cottage that I have listed on Airbnb. In this post I share my version of this DIY Glass Jar Candle Holder.
Materials for DIY Glass Jar Candle Holder
These are the materials I used to make this wall hanging glass jar candle holder:
- 50 cm length of 2.5cm x 10cm (1 x 4 inch) timber,
- Aged white chalk paint,
- Clear finishing wax,
- 2 slotted wall hangers,
- 3 hose clamps,
- 6 screws,
- 3 glass Consol/Mason jars,
- 3 tealight candles.
My husband and I have decided to declutter our garage. We have gathered a lot of wood for those in-case-we-need-it moments. We have now decided to up-cycle as much of the wood as possible, like this reclaimed wood flower pot holder. The wood in this project was just such a piece.
How-to steps for DIY Glass Jar Candle Holder
These are the steps I followed to make the glass jar candle holder.
- Cut the wood to the size that will fit the wall space where the candle holder will be hung. Mine is 50 cm long.
- Paint the wood with your choice of chalk paint. I had some aged white chalk paint on hand so I used what I had. If the piece of wood being used has some natural beauty you needn’t paint it at all.
- Sand the painted wood down by hand or using a sander. This will give it a lovely distressed look which I love.
- Finish the wood off with a good coating of clear finishing wax.
- Attach the slotted wall hangers at the back of the distressed wood. Make sure to use two slotted wall hangers as the completed candle holder is quite heavy.
- Attach the hose clamps to the front of the distressed wood using the screws. Two screws per clamp will stop the jar from swinging out of line once it is complete. Make sure that the clamps you use are big enough to go around your jars.
- Place a jar in each of the clamps and tighten until the jar is secure. Cut off the extra length of the hose clamp to neaten the edges.
- Pop a tea light candle in each of the jars. Your new glass jar candle holder is now ready to be hung on the wall.
Have you made this glass jar candle holder? I would love to see how it looks in your home.
